The Microfilming unit was installed in the year 1980 with one DK5 Microfilm camera, Developing machine, Photocopier, Film copier and one Reader. In the first phase 5000 rare manuscripts of Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi were selected and microfilmed for preservation.

In 1990 in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts, New Delhi a joint venture of microfilm project has been done and 13062 works were recorded.

At present microfilming of King Serfoji's personal collection of foreign language books is going on.

A Xerox machine installed in this unit enables the old books to be Xerox copied and preserved. The Xerox copies are given to the scholars for reference and use.
